How to use the Age Calculator

  2. Optionally set Calculate Age On to any date — for example an exam cut-off date or 1 January. Leave it empty to use today.
  3. Press Calculate My Age — you instantly get years, months and days, plus total months, weeks, days and a next-birthday countdown.

How this age calculator works

Enter your date of birth and this calculator works out your exact age on any date you choose. It uses real calendar arithmetic — not a 30-day approximation — so the answer matches what schools, government forms and offices expect.

The calculation counts complete years first, then complete months, then the leftover days. Because months have different lengths and leap years add an extra day in February, doing this by hand often gives answers that are off by a day. The calculator never makes that mistake.

A helpful bonus: it also shows your total age in months, weeks and days, and counts how many days are left until your next birthday.

Where exact age is required

Government exams: most competitive exams in India (UPSC, SSC, banking, railways) check age as on a specific cut-off date, usually 1 August. Use the “Calculate Age On” field with that cut-off to know if you qualify.

School admissions: nurseries and schools set minimum and maximum age limits for each class, verified against the birth certificate.

Official paperwork: passport applications, visa stays, insurance policies, pension eligibility and legal documents all need age counted precisely.

Tips for accurate results

Always double-check the year you entered — a wrong year is the most common error.

If you were born on 29 February, your birthday in non-leap years is usually counted on 28 February or 1 March depending on the rule the authority applies.

This tool runs entirely in your browser, so your date of birth is never uploaded or stored anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How is age calculated for government exams?
Exams count your age as on a notified cut-off date, usually 1 August of the exam year. Enter that date in the “Calculate Age On” field and the result shows exactly what the exam authority will compute.
Does the calculator store my date of birth?
No. All calculations happen locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to any server, saved or shared.
Why does my age sometimes differ by one day from what I counted?
Manual counting usually assumes every month has 30 days. This calculator uses the actual calendar, including months of 28, 29, 30 and 31 days, so it matches official records.
I was born on 29 February — how is my age counted?
In non-leap years most authorities count your birthday as 28 February or 1 March. The calculator follows the common convention of completing the year on 1 March in non-leap years.
Is this age calculator free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up, no limits and no ads blocking the result. Bookmark it for whenever you need it.
